Over the past few years, MAX operated Bulger facility as a PADEP-approved beneficial use construction fill landfill and accepted:

  • Oil and gas drilling wastes (drill cuttings, muds, drilling fluids, equipment clean out and unused frac sand),
  • Impacted soils from cleanup, Brownfields projects and drilling sites
  • Air pollution control dusts and coal combustion ash
  • Slag and refractory
  • Wastewater treatment sludges
  • Dewatered dredging wastes

WHAT’S NEW AT BULGER!

In early 2022, MAX will complete the successful re-closure of the pre-RCRA disposal areas by beneficially using select residual waste as construction fill and will temporarily halt waste placement throughout 2022 as we install RCRA compliant caps over the existing impoundment areas and prepare for a new landfill.

In 2020, a revised application was submitted to the PADEP for a new Class 1 residual waste landfill (Landfill 3) proposing over 1 million tons of additional disposal capacity!  MAX is very excited about the long-term future for our Bulger facility.
